How WHATSL handles your account, conversations and website preferences.
About this service
WHATSL is an independent community service for Second Life residents. It is operated by thefrankcastle Resident and is not operated by Linden Lab. For questions about your information, contact thefrankcastle Resident in Second Life.
Account and service information
Your official WHATSL HUD verifies your Second Life avatar when you join. We store your avatar UUID, Second Life username, display name, chat username, profile settings and preferences. A public Second Life profile photo may be fetched and cached for your avatar. If you set a chat password, we store a password hash. Your Second Life password is never required.
We also store channel membership, friendships, direct conversations, blocks, reports, moderation records and session information to provide the service and manage access. Connection and request information is processed for security, rate limiting and operation of the website.
Conversations and visibility
Messages are stored to operate WHATSL. Channel history shown to residents starts with their current visit; new arrivals cannot read earlier conversation. Channel owners and operators can moderate their channels, and the service owner can review channel logs. Direct conversations are available to their participants. Chats are not end-to-end encrypted.
Essential cookies and browser storage
Secure session and connection cookies support sign-in, HUD verification and request protection. Browser storage remembers preferences such as your theme and sound settings. These functions are separate from optional audience analytics.
Optional website analytics
If you opt in, Google Analytics may measure visits and selected interactions on the public welcome and privacy pages. Analytics is not loaded in chat, account settings, administration, sign-in or HUD connection pages. We do not send chat messages, usernames, avatar UUIDs, passwords or HUD token URLs to Analytics. Optional analytics uses cookies or browser identifiers; Google processes this measurement data.
You can accept or reject optional analytics and change your choice through the analytics controls on these public pages. Essential sign-in and chat functions do not depend on that choice.
Google's privacy policyDelete account
You can request permanent account deletion in Settings. Reconnect with your official HUD, enter your exact chat username and confirm deletion. Transfer or remove any active channels you own first. The network owner's account is protected from self-service deletion.
Deletion removes your live account data, your authored channel messages, and direct conversations involving your account, including their messages for both participants. Other residents' channel messages remain. Existing backups are not rewritten by this action. Do not assume that clearing your browser or closing a conversation deletes your account or stored messages.
Storage and control
Information is stored to provide the service, maintain security and handle moderation. This page does not promise a fixed retention period for every record or backup. Use the account controls or contact the service operator if you have questions about your information.
